This website collects together material based on current research into the themes of economic resilience, urban resilience and water resilience.

The common dimension is the resilience of places, and those who live and work there, to natural or man-made shocks. The website focuses on research that has been undertaken in Europe and on Sub-Saharan Africa.  Material from other geographies is included as available.

Where possible the website makes links to material that is available on an open-access basis. Where journal articles are referenced, readers who do not have access to these journals are encouraged to search sites such as Research Gate where many academics post freely-available copies of their research.

Through this website I hope to encourage a conversation as to what makes our towns and cities resilient to diverse shocks and stresses. In particular, I hope that we can work to a greater understanding of what resilience means in different contexts and how we can strengthen our collective ability as a society to weather the shocks that beset our economies.
